Mt. Aizu-Komagatake

Mt. Aizu-Komagatake (2,133 m) in Hinoemata Village, Fukushima Prefecture is in Oze National Park and is among the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan. Koma-no-Ōike pond and the sprawling 'Sky Paradise' alpine wetland that stretches to Mt. Chūmon on boardwalks are the highlights. Access via Tobu/Yagan/Aizu Railway to Aizu-Tajima Station, then Aizu Bus (1 May – 31 Oct) to Komagatake-Tozanguchi. Overnight at Koma-no-Koya (25 Apr – 31 Oct, fully reservation-based) recommended.
Gifu(岐阜)

Mt. Ena

Mt. Ena (2,191 m) straddles Nakatsugawa in Gifu and Achi in Nagano Prefecture at the southern end of the Central Alps, counted among the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan. Named after the legend that the placenta (ena) of Amaterasu-Ōmikami was buried here. The Hirogawara route is the most popular (beginner, 6 h 30 min round trip); the Misaka-tōge ridge route offers sweeping views; the Mae-miya route is accessible by Kita-Ena Kōtsū bus (2-day overnight, advanced). The Kuroizawa route remains closed since the 2020 floods.
Kagoshima(鹿児島)

Mt. Kirishima

Mt. Kirishima is a volcanic group on the Kagoshima–Miyazaki prefectural border, including the highest peak Karakuni-dake (1,700 m) and the mythological Takachiho-no-mine (1,574 m). The Scenic Loop Bus connects the main trailheads at Ebino Kogen and Takachihogawara. Shinmoedake remains at volcanic alert level 2.

Mt. Akan (Meakan 1,499 m, Oakan 1,370 m, Akan-Fuji 1,476 m) is the Akan volcanic group in Akan-Mashu National Park, eastern Hokkaido, counted among the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan. Mt. Meakan summit is closed under volcanic alert Level 2 since 2025/9/15; this article covers the climbable Mt. Oakan (Takiguchi trailhead, ~6 h round trip) and lakeside Onneto walks, with full Akan Bus schedules from Kushiro Station and Kushiro Airport.

April 23 – October 31, the Skyline Shuttle takes you to the 8th station (¥1,200, 30 min) for a 2-hour summit hike via lift. Dake Course ~4h. Yayoi Course closed since Sept 2025.
