Mt. Ōmine (Sanjō-ga-take, 1,719 m) in Tenkawa, Nara is among the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan — the spiritual home of Shugendō, opened by En no Gyōja over 1,300 years ago. The summit hosts Ōminesan-ji Temple (open 3 May – 23 Sep, Important Cultural Property), the start of the UNESCO Ōmine Okugake-michi pilgrimage. Known for the women's-prohibition tradition (still in force). Access via Kintetsu Shimoichiguchi Station + Nara Kōtsū Dorogawa Line to Dorogawa Onsen, then 30 min on foot to Seijō Ōhashi trailhead.

April 23 – October 31, the Skyline Shuttle takes you to the 8th station (¥1,200, 30 min) for a 2-hour summit hike via lift. Dake Course ~4h. Yayoi Course closed since Sept 2025.

The white-granite ridge and the obelisk of Jizō-ga-take are iconic. Access via Yamanashi Kōtsū bus from Kofu Station to Yashajin-tōge, or via Kayagatake Tourist Bus (reservation-based) from Nirasaki Station to Aoki-kōsen or Gozaishi-onsen. 2-day overnight traverse recommended.
