Mt. Fukuchiyama is a 900.6m peak located in Fukuoka Prefecture. It is the highest mountain in the Kitakyushu area and is counted among the Kyushu 100 Famous Mountains.
The nearest trailhead is the Ueno-basami Iriguchi bus stop, accessible by the Fukuchi Town Welfare Bus from Akaike Station or Fureai Shouriki Station on the Heisei Chikuho Railway Ita Line.
Access to the Trailhead
1. Going: Akaike Sta. / Fureai Shouriki Sta. → Ueno-kyō Iriguchi
⚠ Fukuchi Town Welfare Bus discontinued (Oct 2023) → replaced by “Fuku-ru Bus” (AI on-demand, reservation required)
The previous fixed schedule “Ueno-Ichiba Course” (200 yen flat rate, 6 trips/day) ended on October 1, 2023. The town now operates the “Fuku-ru Bus” AI on-demand reservation system:
- Hours: 8:30-17:00 daily
- Reservation: Phone 0947-22-3300 (08:30-16:30) or Fukuchi Town official LINE (24h)
- Fare: Check the Fukuchi Town public transport page
- Non-residents may use the service (excluding elementary/junior high school students)
Alternative: Taxi from Nogata Station to Ueno-kyō is approximately 3,100 yen.
From Akaike Station or Fureai Shouriki Station on the Heisei Chikuho Railway Ita Line, take the AI on-demand “Fuku-ru Bus” (reservation required) to the area near Ueno-kyō Iriguchi. If reservation is difficult, use a taxi from Nogata Station (about 3,100 yen).

2. Return: Ueno-kyō Iriguchi → Fureai Shouriki Sta. / Akaike Sta.
After descending, reserve the “Fuku-ru Bus” (Phone 0947-22-3300) from near Ueno-kyō Iriguchi to return to Akaike or Fureai Shouriki Station. If immediate reservation is difficult, consider a taxi back to Nogata Station.
