Mt. Fuji (富士山) is a 3,776m peak straddling the border of Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures. It is Japan’s highest mountain and one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. This page covers how to reach the most popular trailhead, Yoshida-guchi (Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station). With plenty of mountain huts along the way, it is the most popular route, chosen by roughly 60% of hikers.
From Fujisan Station on the Fujikyu Railway, take a bus to Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (about 1 hour). There are also direct buses from Shinjuku.

[About Mt. Fuji entry regulations (from 2025)]
From 2025, an entry fee of ¥4,000 (per person, per visit) is required at all trailheads. The Yoshida Route has a daily limit of 4,000 people, and advance reservation is recommended. Entry from the 5th Station is restricted between 2:00 PM and 3:00 AM (hikers with confirmed mountain hut reservations are exempt). Reservations can be made through the Mt. Fuji Climbing Official Site.

There are mainly four trailheads: Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (Yoshida-guchi), Subashiri-guchi, Gotemba-guchi, and Fujinomiya-guchi. Below we explain how to reach the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station (Yoshida-guchi) — the busiest trailhead on the mountain — by train and bus.
