Mt. Sengamine
Mt. Sengamine (1,005 m) stands on the border of Taka Town (Taka District) and Kamikawa Town (Kanzaki District) in Hyogo Prefecture, and is one of the 100 Famous Mountains of Kansai.
At the eastern edge of the Chugoku Mountains, it is one of the few 1,000 m peaks in northern Harima, and its grassy summit offers a 360-degree view over the Harima mountains, the Seto Inland Sea, and as far as the Sea of Japan side. The classic Mitani course is a varied route that passes the Mitani Falls (the female and male falls).
For public transport, you take a Shinki bus from Nishiwakishi Station on the JR Kako Line to the foot of the mountain, then walk to the Mitani trailhead.
The main trailhead is the Mitani trailhead (Harmony Park, with free parking and toilets). The Mitani course runs trailhead → Mitani Falls → summit (1,005 m), about 1 hour 30 minutes up. From the stream with its falls, the path reaches a ridge and the grassy summit. By public transport, the nearest bus stop is about 3.5 km (about 60 minutes on foot) from the Mitani trailhead, so a taxi is convenient.
There are also routes from the Ichihara-toge side and the Isarigami terraced-rice side. There is no shop on the mountain, so prepare water and snacks near Nishiwakishi Station. The climbing season is year-round, but watch for snow and ice in winter and heat and insects in summer. Buses are infrequent, so always check the outbound and return times in advance.

Climbing route and safety notes
Route: the round trip Mitani trailhead (Harmony Park) → Mitani Falls (female and male falls) → ridge → Mt. Sengamine summit (1,005 m). The climb is about 1 hour 30 minutes, a varied route that follows a stream with falls up to a ridge and the grassy summit. The summit has a 360-degree view, and you can also traverse to the Ichihara-toge side or the Isarigami terraced-rice side.
Low-mountain notes: Although a 1,005 m hill, the area around the falls is slippery and the ridge has some steep climbs. Watch for mud after rain and wear sturdy shoes. Watch for snow and ice in winter and heat and insects (ticks, hornets, etc.) in summer. The summit is exposed and can be windy.
Water, facilities, season: There is no water source or shop on the mountain. Prepare water and snacks near Nishiwakishi Station, and use the toilet at the Mitani trailhead. The climbing season is year-round, but buses in northern Harima are infrequent, so plan around the outbound and return times.
Gear and emergencies: Carry sturdy shoes, rain gear, drinks, a hat, and insect repellent. In an emergency call 110 (police) or 119 (fire/rescue).
