Mt. Nikko-Shirane-san (日光白根山)

Nikkō Shiranesan is a mountain with an elevation of 2,578m, located on the boundary between Nikkō City in Tochigi Prefecture and Tone District in Gunma Prefecture. It is the highest peak in the Kanto region and is also counted as one of the [100 Famous Japanese Mountains](https://en.culmina.jp/tag/japan100).

There are three starting points for hiking: Yumoto Onsen, Kanuma Trailhead, and Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway. Especially, using the Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway allows for a comparatively easier climb.

To get to these three trailheads, you can take a bus from Tobu Nikko Station or from Jōmō Kōgen Station and Numata Station areas.

Access to the Trailhead

1. [Outward] Tobu Nikko Station → Yumoto Onsen → Kanuma Trailhead → Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway
2. [Outward] Jōmō Kōgen & Numata Stations → Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway → Kanuma Trailhead → Yumoto Onsen
3. [Return] Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway → Kanuma Trailhead → Yumoto Onsen → Tobu Nikko Station
4. [Return] Yumoto Onsen → Kanuma Trailhead → Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway → Numata & Jōmō Kōgen Stations

1. [Outward] Nikko Station → Yumoto Onsen → Kanuma Trailhead → Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway

From JR Nikko Station & Tobu Nikko Station, take the bus bound for Yumoto Onsen. Transfer at the Yumoto Onsen Bus Stop to the bus heading towards Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway. Alight at any of the trailheads: Yumoto Onsen, Kanuma Bus Stop, or Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway.

Bus Timetable from Tobu Nikko Station to Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway

2. [Outward] Jōmō Kōgen & Numata Stations → Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway → Kanuma Trailhead → Yumoto Onsen

Take the bus bound for Kamata from either Jōmō Kōgen or Numata Station. Transfer to the bus headed for Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway at Kamata. Alight at any of the trailheads: Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway, Kanuma Trailhead, or Yumoto Onsen.

3. [Return] Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway → Kanuma Trailhead → Yumoto Onsen → Tobu Nikko Station

Take the bus from Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway or Kanuma Bus Stop bound for Yumoto Onsen. Transfer to the bus headed for Tobu Nikko Station at Yumoto Onsen.

From the trailheads at Yumoto Onsen, Kanuma Trailhead, and Nikkō Shiranesan Ropeway, take the bus bound for Kamata. Transfer at Kamata for buses heading to Numata Station & Jōmō Kōgen Station.
