Mt.Tsukuba(筑波山)

Mount Tsukuba (筑波山, Tsukuba-san), located in Tsukuba City (つくば市), Ibaraki Prefecture (茨城県), is a mountain with an elevation of 877 meters. It is the lowest mountain among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. The mountain is popular due to its easy accessibility from the metropolitan area, making it a favorite destination for a quick hiking trip. From the summit of Nyotai-san (女体山), visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the Kanto Plain.

The most common route to reach Mount Tsukuba is to take a bus from Tsukuba Station (つくば駅) to Tsukuba Shrine (筑波神社), and then start the hike. The journey covers both the peaks of Nantai-san (男体山) and Nyotai-san (女体山), before descending to the bus stop at Tsutsuji-ga-oka (つつじヶ丘). Thanks to the cable cars and ropeway services available, even those who are not confident in their physical stamina can enjoy hiking on the mountain.

From the bus stop in front of Tsukuba Express Tsukuba Station (つくばエクスプレス・つくば駅), also known as Tsukuba Center (つくばセンター), take the “Tsukuba Mountain Shuttle Bus” to Tsukuba Shrine Entrance or get off at the final stop, Tsutsuji-ga-oka.
