Mt. Mitsutoge (三ツ峠山) is a 1,785m peak located in Yamanashi Prefecture.
It is the collective name for three summits — Kaiun-zan (1,785m), Osutaka-yama (1,775m), and Kinashi-yama (1,732m) — and from the summit you can enjoy a stunning view of Mt. Fuji.
It is counted as one of the 200 Famous Japanese Mountains and is also known as a sacred place for rock climbing.
From Kawaguchiko Station, you can access the Mitsutoge trailhead by bus.
Trail information (verified against Yamanashi Prefecture on 2 August 2026)
- Haha-no-Shirataki – junction of the prefectural Nishikawa-Niikura forest road and the Shirataki forest road: rockfall from the earthquake of 26 June 2026 damaged the path, and the section has been closed since 17:00 on 29 June 2026 until further notice (Yamanashi Prefecture; no reopening date announced). The summit can still be reached by other routes.
- Mitsutoge Station route (Daruma-ishi trailhead): a warning was published that the bridge just before Byobu-iwa was close to collapse (Yama-to-Keikoku Online, 26 March 2026). We have not been able to confirm what has happened to it since through any official source. Follow the signs you find on site.
- Kawaguchiko Station – Mitsutoge trailhead (Tenkachaya line) route: no closure has been announced.

From Kawaguchiko Station, take the Fujikyu Bus “Tenkachaya Line” and get off at the Mitsutoge Trailhead bus stop.

2. [Return] Kawaguchi-kyoku-mae → Kawaguchiko Station
From the Kawaguchi-kyoku-mae bus stop, take the Fujikyu Bus “Kofu Line (Red Line)” and get off at Kawaguchiko Station.

Parking and access by car
If you drive, there is a parking lot at the Mitsutōge trailhead (rear route) — about 30 cars, free, the same spot as the bus terminus in this guide. It is right by the bus stop and trail entrance, with toilets (closed in winter). About 30 minutes from the Kawaguchiko IC.
If you climb from the Nishikatsura side (front route via Darumaishi), the starting point is the Ikoi-no-mori Park parking lot (about 25 cars), about 30 minutes from the Tsuru IC.
