Mt. Gozaisho (御在所岳) is a 1,212m peak on the border of Komono Town in Mie Prefecture and Higashiomi City in Shiga Prefecture, one of the 200 Famous Japanese Mountains and the 100 Famous Kansai Mountains.
A leading peak of the Suzuka Mountains and one of the “Suzuka Seven Mountains,” it can be enjoyed year-round: rocky ridges studded with curiously shaped boulders, Akebono azaleas in spring, autumn foliage, and rime ice in winter. Because the Gozaisho Ropeway runs all the way to the summit plateau, it is popular with everyone from serious climbers to sightseers.
From Kintetsu Yunoyama-Onsen Station, access Gozaisho Ropeway-mae by bus.

The gateway is Yunoyama Onsen (Gozaisho Ropeway-mae).
Take the Gozaisho Ropeway up to Sanjo-koen Station (about 12 minutes); from there the summit of Mt. Gozaisho is about a 20-minute walk. If you climb on foot, the Ura (back) Trail is the usual choice, taking about 3 hours 30 minutes up and about 2 hours 30 minutes down.
*Note: The Naka (middle) Trail has been closed indefinitely since May 25, 2025, due to the risk of collapse of the “Obare-iwa” rock. Please use the Ura Trail or another route when hiking.
