Mt. Adatara (安達太良山) is a 1,700m peak in central Fukushima Prefecture, counted among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.
The overall mountain shape is gentle, and the ski-area gondola lift between Okudake and Mt. Yakushi runs seasonally (April 11 – November 23 in 2026), comfortably reaching about 1,300m elevation — making it accessible even for beginners.
From Nihonmatsu Station on the JR Tohoku Main Line, access the Okudake Trailhead by bus or taxi.

From JR Nihonmatsu Station, take Showa Taxi’s “Taxi + Ropeway Round-trip Set, Adatara Kogen Resort direct service.”

From in front of Nihonmatsu Station, take the Fukushima Kotsu bus bound for Okudake.

From the Okudake Trailhead to the Mt. Yakushi summit, the ropeway is available.

The Adatarayama Ropeway links the Okudake Trailhead (base station) with Mt. Yakushi (summit station) and runs from April 11 to November 23 in 2026. Hours are 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (last ride up 3:50 PM, last ride down 4:20 PM), the adult fare is ¥1,300 one way / ¥2,200 round trip, and it is suspended in bad weather. For a day trip, note that the last return bus leaves the Okudake Trailhead at 16:15, so plan to descend in good time to catch it.

From in front of Nihonmatsu Station, take the Fukushima Kotsu bus bound for Shiozawa Onsen via school, and get off at Shiozawa Onsen.

From the Shiozawa Onsen bus stop, take the Fukushima Kotsu bus bound for Nihonmatsu via school, and get off at Nihonmatsu Station.
