Mt. Kumotori-yama (雲取山)

Mount Kumotori (雲取山 Kumotori-yama) is the highest peak in Tokyo at 2,017m, located at the junction of Tokyo, Saitama, and Yamanashi Prefectures. It is one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains (日本百名山) and stands at the eastern edge of the Okuchichibu mountain range.

The mountain can be approached from Okutama Station on the Tokyo side or from Chichibu/Mitsumine on the Saitama side, with several bus routes serving different trailheads. The hike from Kamosawa to the summit takes about 5 hours 20 minutes, and from Mitsumine Shrine about the same.

While a day hike is possible, an overnight trip using the Kumotori-sanso lodge or nearby tent sites is popular.
