Mt. Kurofu (黒斑山) is the highest peak of the first outer-rim of Mt. Asama, straddling the border of Gunma and Nagano Prefectures.
The approach from Kurumazaka-toge (Takamine Kogen) is the shortest, and from the outer-rim ridge you can see the crater area of Mt. Asama, Mt. Yatsugatake, and even the Northern Alps in good conditions.
The course is well-maintained, popular as a step-up for beginners in summer, and as an introduction to snow mountains with crampons / wakan / snowshoes in winter.

The trailheads are two: “Mt. Asama Trailhead,” which has Asama Sanso etc. along the course, and “In front of Takamine Kogen Hotel,” which has Takamine Onsen etc.

Mt. Asama Eruption Alert Level 2 (crater-area regulation)
