Mt. Omuro (大室山) in West Tanzawa is a quiet famous peak that lets you savor the depths of Tanzawa. Starting from the Nishi-Tanzawa Visitor Center, climbing the ridge from Inukoshiji and looping with Mt. Kanyudo gives a day-hike of about 7.5 hours / around 14 km — plenty of walking. The summit is surrounded by forest with modest views, but at the “Shoulder of Mt. Omuro” and just before Mae-Omuro the view opens up, allowing enjoyment of Mt. Fuji and the main Tanzawa ridge in good weather. Deep beech-tree forest, fresh greenery and autumn foliage, early-summer azaleas and autumn aconite, and other seasonal color are also attractive. (※ This is a different mountain from Mt. Omuro in Izu / Ito.)

For public transport, starting from the Nishi-Tanzawa Visitor Center is the standard, accessible by local bus from Odakyu Shin-Matsuda Station or JR Gotemba Line Yaga Station.

From Odakyu Shin-Matsuda Station (north exit bus terminal) or in front of JR Yaga Station, take the Fujikyu Mobility bound for Nishi-Tanzawa Visitor Center and get off at the terminus.
