Mt. Iide (飯豊山, 2,105 m) is the principal peak of the Iide range, straddling Fukushima, Yamagata and Niigata Prefectures. Often called the “Tōhoku Alps“, its long ridge of residual snow and alpine flowers makes it a 100 Famous Mountain of Japan (Kyūya Fukada’s selection).
The name comes from Iide-daigongen, the historic mountain-worship deity enshrined at the Iide-san Shrine on the east summit. Highlights include massive Hakusan-ichige, Nikkō-kisuge and the endemic Iide-rindō flower fields, plus the snow-laden ridge. Difficulty: advanced ★★★★★ / ★★★★, standard 2 nights 3 days (effectively mandatory), ~26 km, 2,043 m gain.

About Mt. Iide
The principal peak (2,105 m) of the Iide range (an east-west ridge ~18 km long) straddling Kitakata in Fukushima, Oguni in Yamagata, and Aga in Niigata. The east summit hosts Iide-san Shrine (a major mountain-worship site, with Edo-era white-clad pilgrimages), and the summit ridge forms a famous “narrow finger” of Fukushima Prefecture between Yamagata and Niigata. Within Bandai-Asahi National Park; one of Fukada’s 100 Famous Mountains.
Trail summary (3 main routes)
- Kawaire / Osawa course (Fukushima side, standard, most popular, 2 nights 3 days): Osawa Campsite → Mikuni Hut → Kiriawase Hut overnight → Goshokujo → Honzan Hut → summit
