Mt. Kaya
More figures and data sources
Mt. Kaya (茅ヶ岳) is a 1,704m peak on the border of Hokuto City and Kai City in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Famous as the place where Fukada Kyuya, author of “100 Famous Japanese Mountains,” passed away — a stone monument stands near the summit. One of the 200 Famous Japanese Mountains, it is a mountain of fine views, with the Yatsugatake Range and the Southern Alps in panorama. Early-summer azaleas and autumn foliage are also magnificent.
From JR Nirasaki Station, access the Fukada Memorial Park bus stop by local bus.

The Sankyohoku “Nirasaki–Fukada Park” line runs only on weekends and holidays (and during Golden Week). On those days a round trip works: leave Nirasaki Station at 8:45 (arrive Fukada Memorial Park 9:05), and return on the 16:20 bus from the park (it fits the Kayagatake round-trip course time). On weekdays the bus does not run, so take a taxi from Nirasaki Station (about 15–20 minutes).
