Kumo-no-Daira (雲ノ平) is a lava plateau spreading at about 2,600m elevation in the innermost part of the Northern Alps.
Praised as the “last secret region of Japan,” ponds dot a vast 250,000-square-meter highland, with different scenic gardens such as the Alps Garden and Greek Garden continuing.
Known as a treasure trove of alpine plants, you can also enjoy a loop traverse to Mt. Sofu, Mt. Suisho, and Mt. Washiba using Kumo-no-Daira Sanso as a base. Oritate and Shin-Hotaka Onsen are the main entry points.
This page introduces access by train and bus to Oritate, the shortest route to Kumo-no-Daira.
