Mt. Tanzawa (丹沢山)

Mount Tanzawa (丹沢山, Tanzawa-san) is a mountain with an elevation of 1,567 meters, located on the Tanzawa main ridge in the Tanzawa Mountains. It is situated on the boundary between Sagamihara City’s Midori Ward (神奈川県相模原市緑区), Aiko District’s Kiyokawa Village (愛甲郡清川村), and Ashigarakami District’s Yamakita Town (足柄上郡山北町), and is designated as part of the Tanzawa-Oyama Quasi-National Park along with the surrounding mountains.

Fukada Kyūya, the author of “Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains” (日本百名山), includes the surrounding mountains such as Mount Tō (塔ノ岳) and Mount Hiru (蛭ヶ岳) as part of the 100 famous mountains.

Because it is located in the center of the Tanzawa mountain range, the distance to reach Mount Tanzawa is long, and it is basic to spend one night and two days using the mountain huts.

The common route to access Mount Tanzawa is from Yabitsu Pass Bus Stop (ヤビツ峠バス停) or Okura Bus Stop (大倉バス停), going through Mount Tō. Another route is walking the public road from the Miyagase Lake’s Sansaro Bus Stop (宮ヶ瀬湖の三叉路バス停) to Shiowatari Bridge (塩水橋).

Take the Kanachu bus “Sagami 71: to Okura” from Odakyu Shibuzawa Station, and get off at Okura Bus stop.

Board the Kanachu bus from Odakyu Hon-Atsugi Station (小田急本厚木駅), take the “Atsugi 20 Miyagase (厚20 宮ケ瀬行)” bus, and alight at Sansaro Bus stop ( (三叉路).

Take the Kanachu bus ‘Hata 21 / Hata 31 for Hadano Station’ from Yabitsu-toge Pass Bus stop (ヤビツ峠) and get off at Hadano Station (秦野駅).
