Mt. Tateyama (立山)

Tateyama is the main peak of the Tateyama mountain range in the northern part of the Northern Alps, and is a collective name for three summits: Oyama (3,003m), Onanjiyama (3,015m), and Fuji-no-Oriate (2,999m). Onanjiyama is the highest peak in Toyama Prefecture, and Tateyama is designated as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains and one of Japan’s 100 Flower Mountains. It has been a sacred mountain of mountain worship since ancient times, and ptarmigans inhabit the area around Murodo, where alpine flower fields spread as the snow melts. By using the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, you can reach Murodo at 2,450m elevation using only public transportation.

From Tateyama Station on the Toyama Chitetsu Railway, take the Tateyama Cable Car (approx. 7 min) up to Bijodaira, then transfer to the Tateyama Highland Bus (approx. 50 min) to Murodo Terminal. The cable car and highland bus operate on a connecting schedule.

Travel time: Tateyama Sta. to Bijodaira (7 min) | Bijodaira to Murodo (50 min)
Fare: 4,090 yen one-way (Cable Car 1,090 yen + Highland Bus 3,000 yen)

2. Return: Murodo → Bijodaira → Tateyama Sta.

From Murodo Terminal, take the Tateyama Highland Bus (approx. 50 min) down to Bijodaira, then transfer to the Tateyama Cable Car (approx. 7 min) to return to Tateyama Station.
