Mt. Nokogiri-yama is a 329m mountain on the border of Kyonan Town and Futtsu City in Chiba Prefecture.

Quarrying of “Boshu Stone” took place here since the Edo period, and the quarry remains on the cliff faces create a dramatic landscape. Within the Nihon-ji Temple grounds, you can find the famous “Jigoku Nozoki” (Hell’s Lookout) and Japan’s largest cliff-carved Buddha statue. The mountain offers both hiking and sightseeing enjoyment. Its easy access from JR Uchibo Line Hamakanaya Station is a major attraction, and a ropeway is also available. With good station access, a ropeway, and ample parking, this famous Chiba mountain draws many tourists as well as hikers.
