Mt. Buna (武奈ヶ岳)

Mt. Bunagatake (武奈ヶ岳, 1214m) is the highest peak of the Hira Mountains, located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. Listed among the Nihon Nihyakumeizan and Kansai Hyakumeizan, it is popular for the open summit with panoramic views over Lake Biwa.

The main approach to Bomura trailhead is by Kojak Kotsu bus from Katata Station (JR Kosei Line), or by Kyoto Bus from Demachiyanagi Station (weekends only). An alternative approach via Hira In-Taniguchi is available by bus from Hira Station (weekends only, seasonal).

From Katata Station on the JR Kosei Line, take the Kojak Kotsu bus Katata-Kutsukawa Line and get off at Bomura.

2. Going: Demachiyanagi Sta. → Bomura

From Keihan Demachiyanagi Station, take the Kyoto Bus bound for Kutsuki Gakko-mae and get off at Bomura. This is a single one-way service running on weekends and holidays only.

Operating period: March 16 – December 15 (weekends/holidays only). Fare: 1000 yen. Travel time: 56 minutes.

From Hira Station on the JR Kosei Line, take the Kojak Kotsu bus Hira Tozan Line and get off at Hira In-Taniguchi.
