Mt. Asama-Kakushi
Mt. Asama-Kakushi (浅間隠山) is a 1,757m peak on the border of Higashi-Agatsuma Town in Gunma Prefecture and Tsumagoi Village in Nagano Prefecture.
Selected as one of the 200 Famous Japanese Mountains and the 100 Famous Mountains of Kanto.
On the shortest course starting from the Mt. Asama-Kakushi Trailhead, you can stand at the summit in about 1.5 to 2 hours. From the summit, Mt. Asama’s magnificent form lies directly in front — true to its name “the mountain that hides Mt. Asama,” the view is so dominant it overshadows Asama itself.
However, public-transport access to the Mt. Asama-Kakushi Trailhead is limited; this page introduces bus access to Shimizu (Asama-Kakushi Onsenkyo) on the northeast side.
Direct service to Shimizu / Asama-Kakushi Onsenkyo discontinued in January 2021 route reorganization
The Kan-etsu Kotsu “Oto Line” Shimizu / Asama-Kakushi Onsenkyo-bound service was discontinued in the January 2021 route reorganization. The current route requires a transfer at the “Sakaue” hub bus stop to the Rose Queen Transit “Sugao Line” (Higashi-Agatsuma Town community bus). The Sugao Line operates fixed-schedule only in the morning; during the day it is on-demand reservation system (advance phone reservation required: 0279-26-3770). The timetable in this article contains pre-reorganization information, so verify the latest accurate times on the Higashi-Agatsuma Town Public Transport Guide (April 2026 edition).
