Mt. Ogura (御座山) is a 2,112m peak in Minamisaku District, Nagano Prefecture.
From the rocky summit, you can see nearly the entire Yatsugatake Range; the panorama extends to Oku-Chichibu and Mt. Asama, with the appeal of quiet, remote-area mountain walking. It is also known as a famous mountain for rhododendrons.
It is counted among the 200 Famous Japanese Mountains.
From Koumi Station on the JR Koumi Line, access the Kuriu or Shiraiwa trailheads by local bus.

How to access the trailheads

1. [Outbound] Koumi Station → Nakajima / Shako → Kuriu

From JR Koumi Station, take the Minami-Aiki Village local bus “Koumi → Nakajima / Kuriu bound” bus.
Depending on the timetable, transfer at Nakajima or Shako, and get off at the Kuriu bus stop.

Travel time: Koumi Station → Kuriu about 40 minutes (including transfer)
Fare: ¥100/ride
*Nakajima and Shako are a few minutes’ walk apart. Reference

On Sundays and holidays, the only bus to Kuriu departs Koumi Station at 15:15.
For morning travel on Sundays and holidays, board the 9:40 departure from Koumi Station and get off at Nakajima; from there it is a 50-minute walk to Kuriu.
Also, if Saturday is a holiday, services run on the Sunday/holiday schedule — caution required.

2. [Outbound] Koumi Station → Shiraiwa

From JR Koumi Station, take the Kita-Aiki Village local bus and get off at the Shiraiwa bus stop.
For weekday and Saturday services, depending on the time, a transfer at the Yamaguchi Kominkan bus stop may be required.

Travel time: Koumi Station → Shiraiwa about 35 minutes
Fare: ¥200
*If walking from Yamaguchi Kominkan, it is about 1 hour to the Shiraiwa bus stop.

From the Shiraiwa bus stop, take the Kita-Aiki Village local bus bound for Koumi Station and get off at Koumi Station.
Travel time: about 35 minutes

4. [Return] Kuriu → Nakajima / Shako → Koumi Station

From the Kuriu bus stop, take the Minami-Aiki Village local bus, transfer at “Shako”, and get off at Koumi Station.
Travel time: about 40 minutes (including transfer)
Fare: ¥100/ride

On weekdays and Saturdays, with a reservation by the previous day, there are several Kuriu-departure services after 15:15.
