Gifu(岐阜)

Mt. Ena

Mt. Ena (2,191 m) straddles Nakatsugawa in Gifu and Achi in Nagano Prefecture at the southern end of the Central Alps, counted among the 100 Famous Mountains of Japan. Named after the legend that the placenta (ena) of Amaterasu-Ōmikami was buried here. The Hirogawara route is the most popular (beginner, 6 h 30 min round trip); the Misaka-tōge ridge route offers sweeping views; the Mae-miya route is accessible by Kita-Ena Kōtsū bus (2-day overnight, advanced). The Kuroizawa route remains closed since the 2020 floods.
