Mt. Kita (北岳) is a 3,193m peak in Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture. After Mt. Fuji, it is the second-highest peak in Japan, and one of the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains. Its varied mountain features — the snowfields of Okanbasawa, alpine flower meadows along the ridge, and the rock walls of the Buttress — are highlights. From the summit, the Shirane Sanzan traverse continues to Mt. Aino and Mt. Notori.
From Kofu Station on the JR Chuo Main Line, access Hirogawara by bus (about 2 hours, seasonal operation).

The trailhead is “Hirogawara”.
For access by train, buses depart from Kofu Station.
A common pattern for a one-day climb from the Tokyo area on holidays is to arrive at Kofu Station overnight and catch the 4:35 morning bus.

* The Okanbasawa route (between the Shirane-Oike Hut junction and Futamata) remains closed due to typhoon damage. Please use the Shirane-Oike route (Kusasuberi course or Migimata course).
